These "Honey bee” copper-foiled stained glass plant-stakes were handmade by Tamara Goldsmith in her Portland, OR studio. These adorable additions to any plant are the perfect size for gift-giving and come in several different styles, mostly with wing types. Handpainted wings are $55, without wings painted are $48.
Variations include:
Glue chip, which is a textured transparent glass that resembles lace for the wing and is hand-painted.
Irid ripple, which is a textured iridescent transparent glass that resembles water waves (unpainted).
Smoky irid, which is a darker transparent glass that resembles a real wing and is hand-painted.
Four stripes, which is a hammered wing with 4 stripes instead of 3 for the wing and is handpainted.
Soldered to a 6” rod, these ingenious plant stakes are meant to slide into the soil of any potted houseplant … to add some visual flair to one's decor. The solder lines framing the bee have been given a black patina, and are waxed for a protective, shiny surface.
Measures about 13” long, the bee itself is 3.5 tall-5.5” wide.
60/40 lead/tin solder was used. Lead is not dangerous to have in your home in an art-piece like this unless sanded or causing lead-dust to be airborne and inhaled or somehow ingested. However, it is always a good idea to wash your hands well after cleaning or handling the piece. Lead does not touch the plant or soil so it's completely safe.
