This piece was handmade by Tamara Goldsmith, and is now available exclusively at The House of Orange in Cannon Beach, Or.
This beautiful Nautilus Panel was created using all three techniques for adding detail ; wirework, copper foil overlay and also hand-painting using permanent glass paint. A lovely mottled mix of blue and green glass was used for the watery background, which complements the orangey-red colors of the Nautilus and glows beautifully in natural sunlight. COpper-foil overlay is a technique used to define the shell markings, and wire-work was used for the tentacles. These wonderful creatures are an inspiration of survival, thriving relatively unchanged in appearance for over 500 million years.
Paint and decorative elements are on the front side only.
All work is designed, hand-cut, copper-foiled, hand-painted, and assembled with love and careful craftsmanship using the traditional Tiffany method in her Portland, Oregon, studio.
Measures about 15" wide and 12" tall. It hangs from a blackened chain about 8 inches from the top.
Stained Glass, a technique relatively unchanged for hundreds of years, is the ancient art of assembling cut, mineral-infused, handmade art glass together with lead/tin seams. 60/40 lead/tin solder was used and the border is lead came.
The piece will be carefully wrapped to prevent breakage during domestic shipping.
Lead is not dangerous to have in your home in an art-piece like this unless sanded, causing lead-dust to be airborne and inhaled or somehow ingested. However, it is always a good idea to wash your hands well after cleaning or handling the piece.
