Upcycled Vintage Uranium Glass Plate Spiderweb and antler suncatcher
Handmade by Tamara Goldsmith, this unique 3D Spiderweb suncatcher employs delicate wirework overlay on a rare upcycled vintage uranium, textured glass plate.
These wickedly cool pieces are part of the latest Halloween offerings, are definitely strange and unusual, and they come in two sizes. All work designed, hand-cut, copper-foiled, and assembled with love by Tamara Goldsmith in her Portland, Oregon studio.
These one-of-a-kind pieces are carefully crafted using the traditional Tiffany stained glass method, and are securely mounted onto a real antler. The solder was finished with polished black patina, and delicate handcrafted wirework was employed to create the spiderweb. Vintage uranium glassware is safe to keep and collect in the home. This glass is slightly radioactive, which causes it to glow green under black-light. Though is not dangerous to have in your home or come in contact with it, it is not food-safe and never recommended store liquids or food in uranium dishware.
Measures about 10" tall and hangs from a 6" long gunmetal chain.
Stained Glass, a technique relatively unchanged for hundreds of years, is the ancient art of assembling cut pieces of art glass together with lead/tin solder seams. 60/40 lead/tin solder was used. Because the solder contains lead, it's best to wash your hands after cleaning or handling. It is not dangerous to own either uranium glassware or stained glass containing lead unless the solder or uranium glass is abraded, then inhaled or somehow ingested after dust is created.
